The Scarecrow Army - A book review by Tom Windsor

The Scarecrow Army enlightens readers with stories from not just Australian soldiers but also the tales of New Zealand, English, French, Ghurkhas (Hindu soldiers from Nepal, renowned for their fighting skills) and Indian Soldiers fighting for the Allies and against their enemies the Turkish.

The Scarecrow Army is an amazing book that tells of the horrors that occurred at Anzac Cove from the 25 of April 1915 to December 19, 1915, where young men with great ambitions perished because of the incompetence of their Commanders and the brave resistance of the Turkish soldiers defending their Homeland.

If you are looking for heroes look no further than this book. It is full of heroic deeds done by ordinary men achieving greatness against impossible odds. Though, who they were fighting were not villains or evil, the Turks were fighting for their Home & Country which makes them just as many Heroes in their own right.

The Scarecrow Army is a compelling book with humour & horror which gives the true meaning of Anzacs and their traditions.

Compiled from official documents, diaries and letters, Leon Davidson brings to life the stories of mateship and gallantry of the Brothers in Arms who fought and died next too each other, they arrived soldiers and died brothers, gallant in service, to their beloved country.
